Gareth Bale could earn £25 MILLION a year in total as Madrid falls in love with the Wales star.
Modest Gareth Bale was flanked by his proud relatives today as 35,000 screaming fans welcomed him into one of the world’s biggest – and richest – sporting families. The 24-year-old footballer from Cardiff was unveiled by Spanish giants Real Madrid after signing him from Tottenham for a world-record transfer fee of £86.3 million.
Bale, who has trademarked his heart sign goal celebration, could really feel the love as supporters chanted his name at the gigantic Bernabeu Stadium. In fact, everything about the deal is gigantic. He will earn £15 million a year in wages – adding up to £90 million over the six-year contract. But experts reckon it could turn out to be a canny deal for Real because of the millions he will earn the club through sponsorship deals and shirt sales.
As well as his basic pay, the Welsh international is expected to make an extra £10 million a year with endorsements. That will give him annual earnings of £25 million, which will make him the highest paid British footballer.
Bale seemed overwhelmed at times by the incredible reception yesterday. He said in English: “It’s absolutely amazing to be here. It’s a dream come true.” The forward then brought the house down when he said in Spanish: “Hello, this is a dream, thank you for this great welcome.”
